Where has the time gone?

April 2nd, 2008 at 06:55 pm

Well, I am back after a two month hiatus. Things haven't greatly improved--I wish I could say I have made such good progress. but, I haven't gone backwards so I am at least holding ground. We are in the process of going over the budget with a fine tooth comb. I have updated my version of Microsoft Money and am working on getting everything updated.

Right now, I am stressed about the economy and hubby and I have decided to take an aggressive attempt to find ways to "bulletproof" ourselves so that this down turn doesn't hurt as much. This will include reassigning financial "duties" between us. I am going to be in charge of weekly bill paying, investments and insurance and the food budget. He will be in charge of trimming utility cost, car maintenance and gas conservation, and home improvement projects. We have a budget we are tweaking right now and I will port it on my blog as soon as I feel it is ready.

Our priorities right now are building the emergency fund and reducing our discretionary spending. We are also really analyzing needs vs. wants and trying to get back to a more simplistic way of living. It is truly a work in progress.

Sounds like you are heading back in the right direction! My company is being bought out by BofA - so I have no idea if I will have a job or not... fun time to start a budget, huh? I hope all goes well. Can't wait to see your budget, and successes.

BA--That is what I am telling myself--at least it is not worse! 76- hubby is actually in the same situation, sorta. He is a contract employee in telecom. His contract with the current employer is up in June and nobody knows if any of the contractors will be renewed. He is actively looking for employment right now so that he at least has his feelers out. But things are not good in his line of work right now ad not many people are hiring new employees-most are getting rid of the ones they have. I am just crossing my fingers!!

You are both fortunate to have these duties fairly distributed. I share your perspective but I get overloaded with having to think of all the above and cleaning up after housemates. Good for you both for making a plan!
